Ana sayfa / Software

The desktop operating system market continues to boom. Although Windows is by far the market leader, the recent rise of Linux is quite remarkable. Sitting at the peak of all time, Linux seems to grow even more in the coming period with its usage rate.

According to the latest figures from StatCounter, Linux’s efforts to increase its desktop market share continue unabated. In July, Linux accounted for 4.5 percent of the desktop operating system market. This is its highest share ever.

If Linux continues its current growth rate, it could reach a market share of 5 percent by next February. Although Windows dominates the market with about 72 percent share, it continues to lose users. It has lost 0.8 percent in the past three months.

Linux packages such as Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Zorin OS have played a major role in this growth. It has managed to rival Windows and macOS in personal and business computing. In this context, Linux has made great strides in usability that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.

Here is the breakdown of the desktop operating system market as of July:

  1. Windows – 72 percent
  2. macOS – 14 percent
  3. Linux – 4.4 percent
  4. ChromeOS – 1.4 percent
  5. Other – 7 percent

Linux has no license fees, which is a big advantage over Windows 11 and macOS. Ubuntu and other popular versions can now be used without a command line.
